Bom Debate Get-Together 2025: Pushing the Boundaries of Debate in Korea

Date: 2025-05-25

SEOUL -- The Bom Debate Get-Together (BDGT) 2025 concluded with remarkable success, bringing together 109 participants, including 34 teams and 36 adjudicators, for a day of intense and strategic competition at Dulwich College Seoul.

As the first debate tournament in Korea to adopt the Canadian Nationals 2v2 format, BDGT has redefined competitive debating by emphasizing team strategy, argument depth, and persuasive communication. This format, originally established in Canada, challenges debaters to deliver both structured case-building and tactical refutations, raising the bar for debate excellence in Korea.

This year’s tournament featured four high-stakes preliminary rounds, where teams competed on diverse motions, ranging from global policy to ethical dilemmas. The top teams advanced to the open final, delivering impassioned speeches in front of an engaged audience and an expert panel of adjudicators. The event culminated in a prestigious awards ceremony, honoring the best teams, top speakers, and outstanding adjudicators who demonstrated exceptional reasoning and rhetorical skill.

Reflecting on the tournament’s impact, Ethan Kim, Tournament Director, remarked, “BDGT has become a proving ground for Korea’s most promising debaters. The adoption of the Canadian Nationals 2v2 format has provided a new level of intellectual rigor, and we’re proud to see how competitors are pushing the boundaries of strategic argumentation.”

BDGT continues to set the standard for debate in Korea, providing a platform for young debaters to sharpen their critical thinking, persuasion, and analytical abilities. With growing participation each year, the tournament is cementing itself as a must-attend event for Korea’s debate community.
