SEOUL -- A global powerhouse in electrical engineering and electronics, Siemens Korea (Siemens Ltd. Seoul·SLS) announced that the company donated KRW 10 million to the Korean Red Cross for forest restoration in March 2024.

The donation delivery ceremony took place at the Korean Red Cross Seoul Office in Jung-gu, Seoul, and hosted HaJoong Chung, President and CEO of Siemens Korea, ChulSoo Kim, Chairman of the Korean Red Cross, and representatives from both parties. The donation will be used as part of the ‘Forest Restoration ESG Campaign with Siemens Korea’, co-organized by the Korean Red Cross and Korea Forest Service and hosted by Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute and Baekdudaegan National Arboretum.

The campaign is aimed at restoring forest ecosystems in the Civilian Control Line (Civilian Control Line) area, where soil is being lost due to the climate crisis and creating an ecological forest to provide a habitat for bees. Through this donation, Siemens Korea is contributing to protecting the environment for future generations and establishing sustainable ecosystems.

Mr. HaJoong Chung, President and CEO of Siemens Korea, said, “With our DEGREE sustainability framework, Siemens has made significant efforts as a leading company in ESG management. Siemens Korea will continuously conduct various sustainable activities and contribute to conserving the ecosystem and biodiversity.”

ChulSoo Kim, Chairman of the Korean Red Cross, said, “We are grateful to Siemens Korea for participating in the path of restoring our forests and preserving our environment. The Korean Red Cross will actively strive to create positive values such as forest restoration to provide a habitable environment for future generations.”

At the event, the ESG Verification Certificate delivery ceremony was held as part of the ESG program implemented for the first time by the Korean Red Cross. This program was implemented to promote ESG initiatives in collaboration with the government, corporations, and citizens in the environmental and social sectors. Siemens Korea has been recognized as a leading company actively pursuing ESG initiatives.

Since its foundation in the 1950s, Siemens Korea has been pursuing social contribution activities to realize social value. In addition to supporting recovery efforts for the Türkiye Earthquake, wildfire in Gangwon and Gyeongbuk, and Nepal earthquake with the Korean Red Cross, Siemens Korea will continue to engage in restoration activities in flood-damaged areas including a tree planting event with the Korean Red Cross and the Korea Forest Service to celebrate Earth Day in this April.
