SEOUL-- October 27, 2022 -- The Institute for Policy and Strategy on National Competitiveness (IPS-NC) announced that the Institute for Industrial Policy Studies (IPS) Switzerland will organize the global conference on National Competitiveness and Nation Brands rankings over 60 countries and regions around the world at 10 AM, Central European Time (CET), October 27 (Thursday), in Geneva, Switzerland.
Since 2020, the National Competitiveness Ranking has been jointly released by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Franklin University Switzerland, and the IPS-NC. This year, the Nation Brands ranking will also be released at the same time.
The existing reports on national competitiveness have some fundamental problems such as frequent changes of the evaluation models, which lead to missing criteria and overlapping among variables. This is because they are not based on solid theoretical background. In order to address such issues, the IPS-NC initiated a new national competitiveness research in 2000, and since then it has published the report annually. Recognized for its excellence in theory and methodology, Edward Elgar Publishing published its research results in 2013 as a book. In the same year, the theoretical research results were published by World Scientific Publishing. The IPS-NC and World Scientific Publishing agreed to make a long-term contract to publish the research result annually since 2021. On the other hand, the research of assessing the Nation Brands began in 2003 and will be the 20th year this year. This research evaluates the Nation Brands of the 39 counties/regions assessed by people from 60 countries/regions. At this conference, we present the 10 factors determining the Nation Brands value of a country/region and suggest the national strategies to improve the Nation Brands.
The upcoming 2022 Global Conference on October 27 consists of two sessions. In Session I, national competitiveness and Nation Brands rankings, with their implications, will be released. Nikhil Seth, Executive Director of UNITAR, and Kim Hildebrant, Chairman of Franklin University Switzerland, will give congratulatory remarks. For keynote speeches, Dong-sung Cho, Chairman of the Institute for Industrial Policy Studies (IPS) and Professor Emeritus of Seoul National University, and Hwy-chang Moon, Chairman of the IPS-NC and the Professor Emeritus of Seoul National University, will deliver presentations on Nation Brands and national competitiveness, respectively. In Session II, invited scholars and practitioners will present on the special topic of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG).
“We hope the Global Conference on October 27 will help the policymakers and business managers gain insights to effectively respond to uncertainties in the era of the fourth industrial revolution and other challenges such as ESG.” said, an official from IPS-NC.
