CHEONGJU, SOUTH KOREA-- October 20, 2021 -- The 2021 Online World Martial Arts Masterships (online.mastership.org) and World Martial Arts Masterships Committee (WMC) Convention 2021 will be held for six days from October 28 at the online studio and Grand Plaza Cheongju Hotel in Chungcheongbuk-do.
Hosted by Chungcheongbuk-do and WMC, organized by WMC and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the 2021 Online World Martial Arts Masterships, under the patronage of UNESCO, is the first online international martial arts multi-games held for the purpose of overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and promoting a continuous exchange of global martial artists.
Under the theme of ‘New Challenge, Open World’, the event featuring 10 martial arts categories including official Olympics events, Judo and Taekwondo will be participated by 3,300 people from 100 countries. The event will serve as a stage for the exchange of martial arts information across the world and suggest the direction to be pursued by the martial arts world in the pandemic era through the slogan, “No visas, No passports, No borders, No COVID-19.”
Martial artists from each country will demonstrate their forms for the respective category, such as Poomsae and Kata online, and the judges will also assess the forms and rank the participants online. The matches and judging will take place on the online platform established by the WMC and the match operation and all the events will be streamed live online.
The WMC Convention 2021 will also be held from October 28 to 30.
Following last year, the WMC Convention has also adopted the hybrid (online and offline) method this year and the program will consist of World Martial Arts Industry Fair, Academic Conference, World Martial Arts Leaders Forum, and the WMC General Meeting. All the programs of the WMC Convention will be live-streamed through its website and YouTube channel.
The WMC has attained an international status by being approved as a Permanent Consultative Member (PCM) of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) in UNESCO and as the code signatory of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and it is the first martial arts and sports organization in Korea to participate in the Sports for Climate Action of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
